Nativity 2015

The other day we visited Fariones Hotel in Lanzarote, outside the entrance was a beautiful nativity scene. This time of the year these scenes are found throughout the island. This one is very large and filled with incredible detail. The scene shows life as it was in rural parts however, in some areas it is still similar even today.

Many of the model buildings are based on full size properties found in villages scattered throughout the island.

This island is volcanic and the lava stones are used in traditional buildings and dry stone walls. The ground is covered with pecon, which is pulverised larva stone. This is used throughout the island to keep the heat from the land. Every garden has pecon to cover the surface and to protect the roots of the plants.

I have made an amateur short video of the scene which I hope you will enjoy watching.

As always a BIG thank you for stopping by.
Hugs
