Today, I am delighted to welcome Ruth Enright to PB HQ. Ruth is an award winning author and a fellow Yorkshire woman. Please help yourself to a glass of bubbly and enjoy meeting my lovely guest.
Hello Pauline and thank you very much indeed for
featuring me in your blog. I am Ruth Enright, originally from Halifax in West
Yorkshire but I have lived in Manchester for most of my adult life. I work in
local government, have always loved to write and of course to read. I have at
last begun to achieve my ambitions in the writing field by having two novels
published. ‘Seahaven’ a historic adventure set in 1700s England and ‘Button
Box’, a magical time travel story set in the modern day and 1850s London. The
books are published by Blossom Spring Publishing and are available from Amazon
and other outlets.
I have been self publishing my poems, short stories,
photographs and other pieces on my website at My Web Site since 2017 and, having
flexed my writing muscles again there, have had five short stories published in
in ‘Yours Fiction’ Short Story Quarterly Special magazine in 2021 and 2022, two
in one issue. This was a wonderful success and having two fiction books
published as well in 2021 and 2022 has given me huge pride in realising that I
could really do it!
I began writing as a child and always wanted to be a writer but during the typewriter years in my twenties in the eighties, publishing was a very hard nut to crack. I always tried, during my working and family life over the next thirty or so years, to keep up my writing. I live with my partner and have a daughter whose tortie cat Margot remains with us and is perhaps my sternest critic, if blocking the computer keyboard by sitting on it is anything to go by! The internet, computers and being able to write my blog site gave me a platform to get out there in the world and realise people were actually reading my writings, which was wonderful! I was always determined to keep on trying to be published and now I have been.
The icing on the cake has been to be awarded the Premier Readers’ Award by Chill Awards on 5th January 2023! It really has been so exciting to have my book ‘Button Box’ given such appreciation. It’s so good to know that while I absolutely loved writing it, readers loved reading it! What more can an aspiring novelist want?
I am working on finishing the draft of my next novel,
which is a historical novel for adults where the others were also for children
and young adults. I am also beginning a sequel to ‘Button Box’, much spurred on
by feedback from several reviewers that they were hoping there would be another
‘Button Box’ book to come.
Once again thank you, Pauline for introducing me here.
While I can talk away about my writing and my visual
style, here are a couple of readers’ reviews to give you a flavour of what
readers have thought so far, together with a link to the Amazon order page for
the books, where there are a number of other reviews for each book and my
Author page information. Both novels are available in paperback and e-book
formats.
Seahaven
An atmospheric,
evocative rollercoaster of a historical novel! Well-drawn, memorable characters
and landscapes and a well-paced plot relevant to today. Very satisfying!
Set in the picturesque
and rugged scenery of the Yorkshire coast, this novel is fluently written in a
clear style that kept me turning the pages until I finished it in a couple of
days.
A classic adventure
tale. A proper page turner and really well written.

I absolutely loved this book! It's so different and unique, the writing is beautifully done.
The author has created a wonderful adventure that takes the reader to the grimy and frightening street of Victorian London. Whilst the story is dual time, the author has concentrated much of the story on the evil happenings in Victorian London. The characters are realistic and well-drawn. The story is clever, descriptive and beautifully written.
As
always, thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoyed meeting Ruth. Until next
time, I hope the sun is shining on your face and in your heart.
Hugs
Pauline
