Almost Real!

Sometimes the most unlikely can create inspiration. For those of you who receive my newsletter, you will know that for the last few years I have been using Photoshop Elements. Last month I decided to go the full hog and subscribe, monthly, to Adobe for the full Photoshop.

Whilst this is exciting, it is also daunting. Elements and the full package are very different which means I am on a steep learning curve, again!

To help keep me focused, I look for projects to work on. By doing this I set myself tasks that encourage me to learn more about what can be achieved and also help to hone in on the skills I have gained. My latest project, picture below, was inspired by the book I am reading, Bickering by Michael Reidy - I was honoured to receive a paperback copy from Michael.

What had me turning to Photoshop was a paragraph that Sir Nigel Thomas described about a painting, Sir Nigel is one of the main characters in the book. Sir Nigel found the painting a little bizarre. In the painting there was a table that stood perfectly yet had a leg missing, a clock that was back to front and a door with no knob! My interest was piqued and I decided to create a similar scene.

As you can see from my scene, the leg is missing from the sofa, the wall clock is indeed back to front, the lampshade is upside down and one of the paintings has a mirrored inversion of the mandarin. All achieved with Photoshop. Of course, I have much to improve on, but what fascinates me is creating scenes that look real, but are not quite what you think.

With this little project complete, I now need to consider what chaos I can create with another idea!

If you are interested in Bickering, here is the blurb…

Bickering

by Michael Reidy

A remote and insignificant archaeological dig raises a series of unanswered questions and leads to the discovery of several important English paintings. Sir Nigel Thomas, painter, and Ligeia Gordon, award-winning actress, attempt to piece together a lost story dating back to the seizing of the throne by Henry Tudor. In the period that followed, under Henry VIII, ninety percent of English art was destroyed. Are the paintings discovered by Sir Nigel and Ligeia rare survivors? Did they come from the ruins of Bickering Hall?

In this third outing for the unconventional couple, can they be certain of anything they are told?
