Shades On! With Carol E Wyer

Throughout February I am having a number of special peeps join me for some warm winter sunshine. All my guests will be answering four simple questions. So slip on those shades and settle down to meet today's fabby guest, Carol E Wyer.

Bikini or swimsuit?

I was looking for wetsuit as an option but it didn’t come up! Definitely a swimsuit. Usually I cover it in a large wrap too. I’ve never been comfortable in a bikini. It stems from the fact I had major surgery on my spine in my early twenties that left a rather ugly scar. I don’t like to display it.

Share a memory from your childhood

My mother and father took me to the cinema to see a Disney film. I was quite young at the time. It was a rare treat because my father was often away, so we didn’t get many trips out as a family. When we got to the cinema the film they expected to be on wasn’t showing. Instead the cinema was showing Up The Chastity Belt with Frankie Howard. Rather than disappoint me, having promised a trip to the cinema, and after a confab about whether I was too young to appreciate the film, we all went in to watch it. Apparently, I was the noisiest person in the cinema guffawing at all the innuendos and laughing out loud almost all the way through it. My mum tried to hide so no one knew she was with me. Guess I have both of them to blame for my humorous approach to life

Favourite summer drink and why?

During the hot summer of 1976 my mum made jugs of Pimms. It was the first time I’d ever tried it. It was delicious, refreshing and I loved it. She filled the large jug with oranges, apples and mint sprigs from the garden. She and I spent weekend afternoons on our sunbeds in the garden, enjoying a few jugs and the relentless sunshine. A couple of years ago, I was given a bottle as a present but it didn’t taste the same. I think I needed that magic mixture of fruit, ice cubes, mint sprigs and my mum to enjoy it.

Poolside or beach for soaking up the sun rays and favourite place?

I hate sand in my bits. It stems from getting it in my egg sandwiches as a child and eating them then coughing for ages afterwards. Poolside every time. I have lots of favourite places but I have to choose Benguerra Island just off Mozambique because it was the most romantic place on Earth. I spent time with Mr G there on a deserted beach. (I didn’t even object to the sand on that occasion and it got everywhere!) Pure white sandy beach that stretched endlessly and soothing waves. *Sigh*.

I used to be the same about not wanting sand everywhere, Carol, but living in Greece meant I had to get used to it.

Lovely interview, Ladies x

Am laughing at Carol's answers. Don't mind sand when I'm on the beach, but hate how it clings to you after you leave, and can't bear walking in sandy shoes.
Great interview. Thanks, Ladies.

Makes me feel chilly just thinking about bathing suits and wet suits (mind you we could do with them in England at the moment). Thank you for the lovely dose of sunshine in these dark months!!

Carol, thank you. My hairdresser took it for me ;)
Thank you everyone for your comments. Apologies for not writing more here but I am on my phone and it is being very difficult. (Must have been communicating with Mr Grumpy). I can't seem to leave a comment easily and this is my fifth attempt.

Haw, haw! Carol, I opted for the wetsuit too. Mine was to go snorkelling in, of course - not! Why can I see Up The Chastity Belt tickling your funny bone?? Great post, girls! Keep it up! Oooh, cheeky.:) xx

Nice memories. I'm thinking about a neck to knee swimsuit, but, since it is too hot here to venture outside thinking is as far as I've got.
Egg sandwiches should never be eaten at the beach. Beaches are for fish'n'chips.
